Data Steward

Frappe protects your data by making some operations hard on purpose. Sometimes an administrator really does need to merge a pile of duplicate customers, turn an existing item into a variant, or fix a bank clearance date that reconciliation got wrong. Data Steward adds those tools for experienced admins cleaning up real-world data. Each one is switched off until you turn it on, and every correction is recorded on the document it changed.

Features

• Bulk merge. Select two or more records in any list view and merge them with "Merge Selected." System Manager only.

• Item to variant. Convert an existing Item into a variant of a template item by choosing its attribute values.

• Clearance date corrections. Set a Payment Entry's clearance date, or manually clear a Journal Entry against its matching Bank Transaction and remove that clearance again.

• Full-width interface. The desk uses the full screen width, unless you have already chosen a container width.

• Safety gates. Each tool is enabled separately in Data Steward Settings and checked again on the server. Each also needs a role and your write permission on the document, and adds a comment to it.

Getting started

Install it with bench, then open Data Steward Settings and enable only what you need. Test on a copy of your site first. Data Steward replaces the earlier jailbreak app: install it, then uninstall jailbreak, and it copies over the settings you had. The README explains the move.
